Welcome to WYKAAO
" ... I went to Shanghai to attend an opening ceremony of an art exhibition by a Hong Kong artist who held his exhibition at a new art gallery in Shanghai. The artist is Dr Dominic Lam, a Hong Kong Wah Yan 1965 graduate. He is the Chairman of World Eye Organization, and the inventor of a new form of painting known as 折光畫 or, painting by Chromoskedasic Process. It is this new form of painting that he is introducing to the Shanghai public. I believe that more such exhibitions by Hong Kong creative artists held outside Hong Kong will help promote the cultural image of Hong Kong.

17th Feb was the Chinese Lantern Festival and the Festival celebration in Shanghai continued for a number of days. It was this Festival that made my short visit to Shanghai a specially colourful one. Our art exhibition opening ceremony took place in the evening on 18 Feb. On that day, we had the morning and most of the afternoon free. We spent the time visiting the Yu Yuan Spring Folklore Lantern Festival site.
It's not something you see everyday but our Class of 1960 did it. They had their 50th Anniversary Reunion in November 2010 in Hong Kong. See the pictures taken in the campus and at a banquet. The two-part video (Part I, Part II) contains a lot of footage of our school, which will certain recall a lot of memories of your days in Wah Yan.
From WYKPSA in HK, "We are pleased to inform you that the One Family Marathon Team had completed the 2011 Marathon Race successfully today (20 February 2011). What’s more encouraging, our young runners had showcased a strong team and fighting spirit as they turned up at 5am and helped each other in the warm up session. Albeit a cool morning with some drizzles, presumably all our runners completed their run in joy.
Thanks to the generosity of many of you and other philanthropic people, the Foundation had managed to raise HK$1 million this year and secured a pledged donation of HK$100,000 per annum for the next 3 years. The fund raised will be allocated to support the continuous development of sport in both Wah Yan." (more pictures and the press release)

"You will be glad to hear that Fr. Deignan seems to be much better now. I visited him yesterday and have just phoned him now. He will almost certainly be out on Saturday.
"On Sunday, Feb. 6, at about 11 a.m., Fr. Frank Doyle was taken from the Arrupe International Residence (Manila, Philippines) to the hospital. Scan revealed a blood clot in his head. Frank is still in the ICU, Medical City, Manila. He is paralyzed on one side and speaks with difficulty though he can recognize people." - Fr. Stephen Chow
Friday, Feb 11, 16:40 message from Jerome who visited Fr. Doyle: "According to the doctors, Fr. Frank's condition is deteriorating. The blood clot in his brain remains and pressure is building up. The edema (fluid leakage due to the pressure) in his brain has increased considerably. Fr. Frank is now intubated as a precautionary measure. The doctors said that if his condition does not improve, they might have to remove part of his skull to lessen the pressure in his brain."
Updates.
On a bright sunny Sunday (Jan 9), the Homecoming Concert 2011 was successfully held on the soccer field in the WYK campus. See news clippings from here and pictures from the Photobank of WYK Past Students Association in Hong Kong. A slideshow of selected pictures can be viewed here.

Eric Li ('95), our Middle East Correspondent, reported from Qatar:
Before the announcement of the hosting country of FIFA2022, I am sure not many of us aware of the State of Qatar. Qatar is a small country and majority of the population are residing in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. Because of the reservation of natural gas and petroleum, Qatar has the highest GDP per capita in 2010. The country is still developing and you will find thousands of construction sites in Doha. Qatari loves sports and they usually offer great deals to sport fans. It's hard to believe I spent only CAD$25 in total for watching 2 semi-finals, double final and the single final of the Qatar Open (Tennis). Tickets for Asian Cup (football) are really inexpensive (from CAD$5 to CAD$25). Food is great here if you are a lamb lover but don't expect you will get any great Chinese cuisine here. Winter is wonderful here but the summer is really hot (close to 50C in the daytime and 40C in the evening + humidity). View pictures here.
On behalf of the Wah Yan Community and HK Jesuit Community, I would like to extend our Year of the Rabbit blessings to our fellow alumni of the WYK Ontario Chapter.
Fraternally,
Fr. Stephen Chow, S.J.
