2010 Jiu Zhai Gou, China trip (Cecil 陳焯亨)
In the spring Edward Chung and I were planning a trip to Jiu Zhai Gou, the scenic spot in Sichuan province bordering Tibet. Joseph Lau in Hong Kong expressed interest in joining even though he had been there before. Then Peter Chau and Joseph Chow also joined. Joseph Chow's wife Hilda and their two children also came along. We decided to meet in Hong Kong, staying for couple of days before heading to Chengdu.
WYKAAO once again participated in the annual Terry Fox Run; this year marked the 30th anniversary of the event. The weather was one of the best in recent years for the walk/run. After a brief introduction by the event organizer and speeches from the dignitaries, we were off for a refreshing morning walking exercise. Starting from the Old Unionville Library, we strolled along a route that is mixed with park areas, boardwalks and natural habitats (click here to view the pictures). Thanks to our 61 generous supporters, the WYKAAO team has raised over $5,000 this year for the great cause! (Click here to see an acknowledgement letter from the Terry Fox Foundation.)
From Mr. Laurence Tam in Hong Kong, "I am glad to take this opportunity to reveal to you that the Wah Yan Kowloon Chinese Ink Painting Exhibition Committee will soon be holding another "Cradle" show in Hong Kong later this year. Since our Cradle exhibition is all about a new method of teaching Chinese ink painting, I consider that the HK Institute of Education is the most appropriate venue for it. It was only last evening at a dinner meeting in a Chinese restaurant at North Point that another "Cradle" exhibition to be held at the Hong Kong Institution of Education was decided........
Classmates are organizing a reunion for the Kowloon Wah Yan class of 1970 to be held on December 18th in Hong Kong. For further details, please contact the Chair of the Planning Committee
On Friday, August 20, 2010, our flight to LA was delayed for more than 2 hours. Gus was waiting to take Peter/Lana Wong and Ms Chan to San Gabriel Hilton where the Conference was held. David Ng Tai-wai (WYK 63), who was in my Form 1D class in 1959, was also at the airport to give me a ride. We met only once in Hong Kong after his graduation and he could not attend the conference. He wanted to make use of the long drive to update me on his career path. On the way, he drove me around the huge plant of Northrop Grumman Co. near the airport where he worked. At the hotel, David had to say good-bye because Patrick Young (WYK 60) from Singapore had been waiting to take me to dinner where Philip Lee (WYK 60) and the Cheetahs had been waiting.
In the August Board Meeting, we celebrated Ho Sir's birthday. We were joined by our distinguished guests, the Honourable Philip Lee (60) and his brother Robert (58). Click here to see more pictures and click here for a short video clip.
Thanks to Gus Yeung (66), we can share a few video clips taken during the Wah Yan International Conference 2010 (August 20-22) in Los Angeles. There are a few clips on the registration/reception before the Gala Dinner. We can also see the performance by Philip Lee (60) and our very own director Sonny Sie (60). Click the picture to enjoy!
