(Fr. Farren)
The first Joint Schools Chinese New Year Celebration Day was successfully held on Sunday, Feb 5, 2012. The Day’s events include bowling, line dancing and karaoke, followed by a dinner gathering with 14 tables of guests. 15 WYKAAO members and spouse attended and participated in various capacities. All activities were well planned and carried out smoothly thanks to the hard working organizing committee and the helpers. Click here to see the pictures. (2012.02.04) Mr. Laurence Tam writes from Hong Kong, "... The art event I took part today was the Prize Presentation Ceremony for the “Young Geniuses: Art Competition-cum-Exhibition 2012” at the Lam Woo Conference Centre of the Baptist University. This competition/exhibition aims to promote and develop young children’s creativity at the age range of 1 to 6, and to raise the awareness of parents and teachers on the significance of nurturing children’s creativity. The idea of the event was first put forward by Prof. Dominic Lam, a past student of Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. He is the Head of the University's newly created Institute of Creativity (IoC). The mission of the IoC is to explore mechanisms by which creative talents can be developed and nurtured.
Dear WYK1972,
We had our first organising meeting on the 17th of Jan and made the following decisions:
1. The date of the dinner event will be 13th October (Saturday) 2012. We chose October for the better weather, we also want to avoid the summer holiday and China golden week rush.
2. The venue : first choice is WYK with catering service, failing that, we will choose a venue with private function room and AV equipment.
3. There will be a one day social outing for students and family on 14th October, possibly to one of the islands of Hong Kong.
60 years ago, Wah Yan College Kowloon moved to 56 Waterloo Road and classes began in September. (... as the hammering of workmen on the exterior of the building taxed the endurance of all ...The Shield).
This is the last year the F7 students write their Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination.
This is the first year, the F6 students receive their Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education. (HKDSE,
We wish the cohort of graduates all the best in the Year of Dragon.
From One Family 2012 Marathon Organising Committee, "Time flies and we are about to set out to take part in the 2012 Standard Chartered Marathon! This is the 5th year we are running, so please Gimus Five!
Our sports teams had a very fruitful 2011 in which many of you helped form a 288-runner Marathon Team, the biggest ever in the history of Wah Yan, and raised $1 million. 4 young members were among the top 10 runners in the 10Km Run 3, out of 6,000 people. The ritual of sportsmanship has indeed driven the whole Wah Yan Community to new heights.
Dear Classmates,
Nearly four years had elapsed since our 40th year after-graduation reunion, which was joyous and memorable. As agreed in our last reunion, we are now planning our 45th year reunion while we would still be capable and not too old to move around. Probably we shall still be healthy enough to celebrate in five more years later but why should we wait?
After discussion with some classmates, we decided to put up a reunion week from 30th November to 6th December 2012 so we can share some happy moments again. (The weather would be at its best in Hong Kong, yet both hotels and flights will be easier to be arranged.)
