Father Farren Update

Created: 05 May 2012

Simon Au Tak Shing (81) writes, "Clovis Hui (one of my classmates) and I visited Fr Farren at the end of April.   We stayed at Dublin for 4 – 5 days.   Clovis stayed longer than I.
Fr Farren walked with the walking frame steadily. He could walk a short distance even without the frame.
His voice was strong but memory was not as good as before.
Luckily, he does not feel any discomfort caused by the cancer at the moment."

Created: 25 April 2012

Updated 2012-12-09

Dear Wahyanites,

Greetings from The Wah Yan One Family Foundation! We would like to report to you our progress thus far. As at end of March 2012, we had raised $94 million for the Dream of Wah Yan Campaign. Since 2009, more than $32 million has been appropriated to the two Wah Yan Colleges to implement small class teaching, teacher formation and whole person development activities for our young Wahyanites.

Under the new 3-3-4 secondary school curriculum, our Schools need much more resources to provide extra care and support to help our senior form students cope with the requirements of the new public examination, The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education The Foundation is going to appropriate $7.5 million each year to help our Schools sustain our Dream for our young boys in the next five years. Nonetheless this is not enough, because our Schools have estimated that they need around $13 million each year in the coming years.

Fr Deignan Education Studio (狄恒教室)

Created: 30 March 2012

Mr. Laurence Tam writes, "On Mar 14, 2012, a party celebrating the 85th birthday of Fr Deignan was held at HKU Ricci Hall. I went there with Prof Dominic Lam Man Kit (63 WYHK) to present a birthday gift to Fr Deignan.  When we arrived at Ricci Hall, we found that the "Fr Deignan Education Studio (狄恒教室)" was having a study group there with Fr Deignan and students from three schools. It's been two years since the 'Moments in Time' video, which presents a comprehensive history of Wah Yan College Kowloon from inception to the current days in an interesting yet authoritative fashion, was released. If you haven't had a chance to view these videos (in Chinese and English narration respectively) or would like to see them again, click the above images. Fr. Farren Update

Created: 19 March 2012

Fr Farren was out of hospital on March 17 after the stomach surgery.  He is now in the nursing home (Cherryfield Lodge, Dublin) again.

March 23.  Fr Farren was able to walk with a walker to the dining area for meals and will go the hospital for a follow up on April 3.

Fr Farren was happy that so many alumni were concerned about him.

Click here for the Get Well card from students of 1962, specially designed and through a very collaborative efforts across continents, wishing him speedy recovery. The two chief designers are Steve Lau from West Virginia and Raymond Lau from Vancouver; and of course there are many contributors from Hong Kong and more. A true Wah Yan Spirit!

Class of 1962 will celebrate their 50th Reunion in Hong Kong this November.

(Fr. Farren)
