"Greetings! Many of you might have heard about our plan to establish a Jesuit university in Hong Kong. Let me take this opportunity to share with you on some latest developments.

We have appointed 3 senior administrators pro tempore (President, Provost, and VP Finance & Administration) to assist us on planning, secured 4 Founding Partners (College of the Holy Cross, Fordham University, Georgetown University and Santa Clara University) to provide us with strong institutional support and another 17 Jesuit universities in Europe, United States, South America, Japan, and India that are willing to collaborate with us. We are now forming a truly international Board of Trustees comprising Jesuits leading these institutions............ Click here for more information.

耶穌會申粉嶺地辦大學

Father Chow【明報專訊】耶穌會中華省昨宣布已向教育局提交意向書,申請粉嶺皇后山私立大學用地,是9個申請土地的團體之一。耶穌會中華省教育委員會主席周守仁神父表示,構思中大學會是一所博雅大學,全校3000名學生都要在校住宿用膳,神學、哲學等為必修科,目前已聘請校長和部分高層,並在本地和海外籌款建校。

周守仁說,耶穌會在全球各地有逾百間大學,擁有豐富專上教育經驗,今次是在國際耶穌會的協助下,向政府申請整幅粉嶺皇后山用地辦學,在其他耶穌會大學的支持下,有信心獲港府批地建校。

教育局預計,皇后山用地可容納8000人,規模與浸會大學相若。但周守仁表示,構思中大學採博雅教育,是一所男女校,全校學生在學4年期間均須住宿舍,故全校只能容納3000學生,校內會興建宿舍供學生入住。

Jesuit Education, My Experience

This article begins with the formative years of the author. It was a time of turbulent events that many alumni in the 50’s had gone through. With this background, students entered Wah Yan to receive the Jesuit education that would impact their future.

The article goes on to describe the author’s experience at Wah Yan Kowloon. We will read about Fr. Burke, Fr. Toner, Fr. Morahan, Fr. L. Egan and Fr. Moran. There are also mentions of Mr. Lim Hoy Lan, Mr. Ching Hing Chow, Mr. Pun Yau Pang and Mr Ma Yuk Lun.

The author tries to answer “What are the marks of a good education?” at the end.

Book on Jesuits in Hong Kong, South China and Beyond 1926~2006

The Book titled, "Jesuits in Hong Kong, South China and Beyond. Irish Jesuit Mission – its Development 1926 - 2006" by Fr. Thomas Morrissey S.J. reveals the achievements and short-comings, joys and sorrows of the Jesuit Mission in Hong Kong, and the experience of individual members under the pressure of work in a difficult climate. At the book launching ceremony attended by a hundred guests on 18th November in Wah Yan Hong Kong Fr. Morrissey signed away dozens of books. Fr. James Webb, S.J.The next Provincial of the Jesuits in English Canada will be Fr. James Webb, S.J. His appointment was announced by Father General Adolfo Nicolas, S.J. who himself was newly elected to the position of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus in January. Fr. Webb will begin his term as Provincial Superior of the English Canada Province on 31 July, 2008. He will succeed Fr. Jean-Marc Laporte S.J., who has served as the Provincial Superior since 2002.

Effective 1 September, 2008, the Jesuit Offices will be moving to -
43 Queen’s Park Crescent East, Toronto, ON M5S 2C4
