Team WYKAAO at HKISAA Table Tennis Tournament

A big congrats to Team WYK (Captain Mike Yam, Co Capt Allan Lee, Michael Luk, Bill IP & Steve Fung)  for exceeding "expectation" to emerge as a close 2nd in the 16 team HKISAA annual table tennis tourney today.

We better last year's record of being 2nd runners up. Click here to see more actions and here for pictures.

WYKAAO has came first twice (2013 & 2015) and second twice (2016 & 2019) twice as 3rd (2017 & 2018) and is arguably the most consistent winning team since inception.

We lost a tight 2-3 in the Final (down 0-2 to even score) to lose the 5th & final match to the highest Canadian Table Tennis ranked player Dave Lau (2,147 points as of July 1, 2019 ) in this tourney.

There are at least 6 teams considered with equal chances (new players for other teams) going in this tourney.

Last year's champ and first runners up, all fell to WYKAAO team in final 8.

It was a very courageous run and we never yield under pressure at critical moments throughout and have excellent strategies in place before each play-off match.

WYK beat last year Champion New Method College  新法書院 3-1 in QF with Michael Luk clinching the winning match 2-1 and did the same in S/F by edging out last year runner up 蘇浙公校 (Kiangsu-Chekiang).

The tourney is won by a revamped St Joseph Anglo Chinese School 九龍聖若瑟 with new addition of a fierce competitor Bing Lee. They beat a strong King's College team 3-1 in the other S/F. King's College lost to 蘇浙公校 1-3 in the bronze decider with their best player slated for the deciding 5th game but never got to play.

Biggest come-back team of the tourney  (from previous years) is the Joint School Ladies team 香港女中聯盟 who managed to get into Consolation 3rd/4th playoff (beating a weakened former  champion La Salle College 喇沙書院 along the way)  and faced  Confucius Tai Shing 孔教大成 with Captain  Janet Kwok getting  the 2 wins against her husband Peter Kwok's team. The sad part was they find themselves in the receiving end again (lost 2-3 to same team in earlier round robin). 2016 Champion 民生書院 was Consolation winner.

A job well done by all members of our table tennis team!
